… I’m actually not too sure how my adventures in impasto started. A friend of mine (Lynda!) bought me some nice new paint and it was calling out to be layered up and these are the results!
Tuesday 18th September 2018 saw the final filming for our art programme for BBC NI .. The People’s Painters !! We had a lovely evening at The Crescent Arts Centre in Belfast to celebrate the end of a busy couple of months. I’d like to thank my fellow artists – Diane, Tessa, Mark and Darren who were all so talented (and funny!) It was a joy to get to know them! Also to local artist Nigel Allison for his encouraging words and help and all the Alleycats TV folk and especially Brian, our cameraman – hard work but worth it!! It was also lovely to meet our presenter Kerry McLean – a lovely lady! Not too sure when the programmes will be broadcast …but watch this space! 🙂
I’d also really like to say a huge thanks to my twin sister Denise … my niece Sarah and brother in law Norman …for cheering me on when things got a bit busy!! Thanks you!!!
Yesterday was a big filming day for the upcoming amateur painting series at the F E McWilliam Gallery (photo by Alleycats TV) …I’m fortunate enough to be one of the artists involved and the other four have now become firm friends – their work is superb!! Not too sure when the three half hour programmes will be aired but will keep you informed!
Wow …what a day! To say that the Søstrene Grene art event was a success would be an understatement. We had so many folk trying the art supplies…and I could not have survived without my twin sister Denise of Denise’s Boxes / Denise McDowell Art!! She was superb with the younger ones who wanted to try to paint sunflowers and floral rings…amazingly patient and encouraging…thank you sis!! Thanks again to the staff and Manager – Nuala – from the Belfast Ann Street store – it was a joy!! 🙂 … so happy it went well and some folk even bought the art bundle to continue their creativity at home 🙂 !!
I decided to start September with a challenge to myself – to complete 30 paintings in 30 days ! I had been given lovely watercolours from a colleague who didn’t use them. This prompted me to start some floral wreaths in various tones. Happy to say I’m keeping on course … here they are ….. so far!!
If you would like to treat yourself (or someone else) to an original pencil artwork of your dog …head on over to my Etsy store !! (short waiting list at the moment) xx 🙂
If you are trying to buy local handmade items for an upcoming birthday present, anniversary gift or dare I say (whispers) Christmas – then come back a little later to my Facebook Page!! I have a number of pieces back from Ross’s Auction Rooms and I have nowhere to put them!! It’s like a gallery in my living room 🙂!! So…here’s the plan …I’ll go and take some photos … when they’re downloaded – the first person commenting ‘SOLD’ will get the artwork ..all good reductions! (please note – small P&P charge may be payable)
See you all later over on my Facebook page!
Got some really nice comments from some of the groups I recently ran art/craft sessions for ….some comments include…
“ Mo has delivered many art sessions to our service users as part of our Healthier Lives residential programmes and classes. She has delivered a painting class to our “Live Life to the Full” women’s group for women who have hearing loss in Derry. The women thoroughly enjoyed it and found it really relaxing and therapeutic. Mo has also delivered craft sessions and to our cochlear support groups in Derry, Omagh and Belfast, which involved making Christmas decorations, handmade cards and some really pretty drawings. Mo is a fantastic teacher. Her manner is really friendly, warm, encouraging and patient and her teaching techniques are very visual and accessible. This is why the groups really enjoy the class and have the opportunity to fully engage and learn new skills.”
********Mo came to do some art with some of my tinnitus clients to show how enjoying basic art can be a relaxing experience and this helps to reduce stress and has a positive impact for those with tinnitus. Mo demonstrated several techniques including crazy birds and mindfulness art. The class had a great time and afterwards when asked, they concluded they had not thought about their tinnitus during the session. Mo also pointed out that you didn’t need to be good at art to have fun with it. I can recommend Mo and her art sessions not only for the fun aspect but also as Mo’s encouragement singles her out as a wonderful tutor. The evaluation forms indicate the positive experience of her art session, ‘The course provided ways of reducing stress levels and so reducing the impact of the tinnitus’. Mo’s art was one of the techniques for reducing stress.
THANK YOU…the words above make all the preparation and delivery worthwhile!! 🙂 x
I’ve had such a great relaxing day …how about you? I actually painted this on Friday evening with my new acrylic colours. They are so vibrant and this is a very textured canvas … looking forward to using them again soon. My brother in law said this is Errigal in the Mournes and I believe him!! Please let me know what you are working on at the moment … ! Bye for now and enjoy your week ahead. Mo x
