Well …to say that my session ‘Doodling Harry Potter’ this month at LeakyCon Dubin..was a success…would be an understatement! I am always a little nervous when I teach and think that no-one will turn up! This time I was hoping for 10-15 folk …. what a surprise when we arrived at the room and we counted how many came …140!! Wow… I’m still smiling!
I was so impressed with all of the participants – aged 4 – 54!! They were all really responsive and talented too! It made me realize that I love to teach …and to see people drawing/painting again. See the photos below for their happy, smiling faces 🙂 !!
My thanks go to my sister Denise (check out her lovely assembled boxes at Denise’s Boxes) and my brother in law Norm who ran around to try to find more paper and pens!! I also want to mention the lovely lady from Australia – Doodles by Sarah – who very kindly gave me permission to use her Harry Potter art to run the session … (it would have be difficult to paint my acrylic landscapes in the session!!) Thank you!
This is a new kind of artwork for me! One of my colleagues asked if I knew of someone who could draw her dog as a gift. I said ‘I can try’ (never having drawn any kind of animal before!)…nothing ventured …nothing gained. Thankfully she loved it and that lead on to drawing quite a few before the New Year. It’s a different kind of art …not as free and easy as painting abstracts in acrylic but satisfying nonetheless!
Although i enjoy watching the BBC’s Big Painting Challenge and I know it’s a competition … but it can be soul destroying when these good amateur artists are torn down every week by the judges (I know they have to have an opinion). Someone on their facebook page commenting… ‘Such a promising idea….just so exasperated by the judges comments. Are they teachers? Their negativity is astounding! Criticism can and should be given in a positive, encouraging manner…not fault finding and crushing. This programme does not sit well and one can only feel pity for the way the contestants have been treated and let down.’ What do you think?
One of my aims is to encourage others to lift their own pens, pencils and paint brushes and start to enjoy their creativity again. If visual art isn’t your thing… then what about woodwork..sewing..sculpture…photography…crafting…poetry…creative writing … just get over the fear and try …
…. finishing some artwork which I began a while back. It’s been a busy month at work and now that the festive season is almost upon us …I’m touching up some art and it’s now on the wall drying! My sister at Denise’s Boxes and I are dreaming up some lovely things for next year …so watch this space 🙂 Hope all your Christmas shopping is almost at an end and you’ll be able to set aside some creative time over the holidays!
What’s it like where you are? It’s getting pretty cold here in Northern Ireland but at least there are some relaxing days off on the horizon (yipee). I really really need to get my paints out very soon…it’s just been so busy with shopping, eating and house stuff recently…but I am really missing my acrylics and canvas!! As we approach the end of the year … I just wanted to thank everyone from all over the world for your visits this year and reaching over 18,000 views!! When I started my little art page …it was really just for family and friends to be able to see my latest paintings but I could never have imagined just how many of you regularly check in and say hello…THANK YOU ALL SO MUCH!!
I would love to know where on earth you are …so please do leave a comment and tell me.
